this won a first place for me as a Christmas poem on another site, but it was written for the disabled vets.

'Twas the night before Christmas,
all though my house,
Someone is here with me,
as quiet as a mouse.

Home after the conflict,
in a far away land,
the hours filled with fighting
in the hot desert sand.

The Sarge was the driver,
and I was a gunner,
leading a convoy
in a scratched up old Hummer.

Cathy foolishly asked me about what Christmas is like down here. I started off writing a few lines, and ended up with an essay. Don't get too excited but I think we may have the smilies back. I've just been tweaking here and there and by pure chance I may have some of them back for you to use. I have no confidence that what I did will stay put or even work for everyone, as I have no idea what I am doing, BUT for now they do appear to be working.

Finally got a computer, access to the Internet and am online!!! It'a a really old laptop, but it works. Now all I have to do is find someome with a copy of XP professional in order to repair my tower in order to not lose all my photos and poetry. If I have to restore my computer I'll lose everything. My graphics card died and the new one was too powerful for my computer and it blacked out everything. All I have is a black screen - nothing else. I got the correct graphics card,...

I thought of this idea just to keep me writing, as I tend to read a lot more than I write, and I'm falling out of practice. Since I like to read, why don't I share reviews of what I've read? That way I can do both--read and write! yay!

Here is a general format that I will try to stick to, so that I don't go off on tangents, making short 30-40 minute exercises into hour-long things.

Yes, it's still us! I'm just experimenting with a few options to try to overcome the effect of those empty boxes with the red X. At the moment, I don't know how to get rid of the damn things, but I wondered whether changing the overall look of MV might help to minimise the effect of them and provide a bit more focus. This is a Yuku skin. Let me know what you think of it - don't panic if you DON'T like it - I can easily change it back to the old MV look or try another...

We were having a discussion on the SSIW side of things about writing outside your style for the anonymous rounds.

That got me to wondering what everyone thinks their style of writing is. I don't mean choice of topics, but style of writing. Here's what I wrote about my style, see if you agree and let us know what you think your style is.

I always start a story with a line of dialogue. My stories are generally pithy and dialogue driven rather than narrative....

Hello everyone! I just logged on here after being away for a while and I noticed that pictures were not loading for me... not even the forum icons or the MV banner (however, I *do* see avatars). All I see are the little red X's and the title and outline of the pic that ought to be there. Does anyone know what I might have done to my computer to make it act up?

Any help would be much-appreciated! Thanks!
