Dancing is like playing an instrument, Gwen. Your body is your instrument. It really is!

I had to laugh at the image of poor Val's hubby hyperventilating over the ill fated digiridoo (sp?) They are cool instruments, alright and would definitely add something to your therapy sessions, Val but maybe the harp would be easier for the poor guy. He could wear a set of wings and give your sessions that new age feel.

Reading wordancer's article about learning the fife, I was reminded of my early struggles with the flute and how it took great stamina and perseverance before I got a decent sound out of it. I do see learning the flute as one of those fluky serendipity type events in my life as I wasn't even planning to take music in grade 9 and the computer put it on my time table.

Rather than rock the boat, I decided to try it and was subjected to months locked away in a practice room trying to get a sound and learn some notes before joining the band. It paid off and when I finally did get some notes, I was completely hooked. Playing flute has definitely been one of the most rewarding and enriching past times and much better than the typing that I had planned to take that year. I took typing in grade 10 and it's useful (especially for longwinded posts on MV :blah ) but nowhere near as much fun. They don't have typing concerts or typing field trips, do they?
