I tried learning to play the recorder at the same time as I was learning the bagpipes and it just didn't fly. You hold the pipe chanter the same way as the recorder but the fingerings were completely different so I was getting seriously confused. I gave up the recorder and stuck with the bagpipes. Most kids here learn the recorder in school but somehow they skipped my year. I still have a nice wooden recorder and I still can't play it.

Penny whistle (tin whistle, Irish whistle) fingerings are similar to flut fingerings so I did learn to play that. I plan to get a wooden one when I can afford it.
