After my two weeks in Cuba, hundreds of miles away from civilisation, yes, I can cope with silence very happily. Nature is very noisey though. It took me a couple of nights to get used to the sheer volume of noise the palm trees above our tent created, rustling in the night breeze to the point that it sounded like it was pouring with rain.

I don't think I could live in the city at all. I'm in a small town at the moment, and when I go back to Devon I will be on the fringes of the countryside again, and I like that, but I would go even more quiet than that if I could afford to do so. But, having said all that, I couldn't be totally isolated - I do need to know I can get back to a bit of noise easily.

When I listen to music, I prefer to use headphones, because then I only have the music in my head, and no outside influences - so I can see the attraction of walking along with my IPod stuffed in my ears, it's just that I hate my little earplugs that go with it, so I very rarely do.

how can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?
